Reps Speaker Abbas applauds legislative outputs of members for considering nearly 1,000 bills

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, has commended the brilliant legislative outputs of the lawmakers as members considered nearly 1,000 bills in the last 6 months.

Abbas said this on Saturday during a special plenary session held to pass the 2024 budget presented by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led administration.

While applauding the performance of the 10th House, Abbas said 120 out of 962 bills introduced have been referred to relevant committees in the lower chamber.

“Our legislative outputs in the last six months are remarkable. The House received and considered 962 bills, 500 motions, and 153 petitions.

“Of these numbers, 120 bills have passed the Second Reading stage. They are currently undergoing further review and refinement to address some of the concerns raised during the debates,” the speaker said.

In another development, the Nigerian Senate has passed the 2024 budget for a third reading, witnessing a significant boost of N1.2tn to reach a staggering N28.7tn.

The budget, initially presented by President Bola Tinubu, underwent careful scrutiny and modification during its legislative journey.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio orchestrated the approval through a voice vote, sealing the fate of the amended budget.
