Moibi emerges CofC, NYCN Lagos Forum of Local Branches Coordinators
A momentous gathering at the Bariga LCDA Secretariat on Friday, 29th December 2023 witnessed the Forum of Local Branches Coordinators, a pivotal part under the National Youth Council of Nigeria, Lagos State Chapter and a coalition of all NYCN Lagos Local branches Coordinators making sweeping decisions that signals a paradigm shift in the leadership landscape.
The coordinators first commended the achievements of the interim committee led by Comr Akibu Sikiru, acknowledging the successful execution of their impactful 4-point agenda.
Following this commendation, the Akibu Sikiru-led interim committee gracefully bowed out after fulfilling its designated 3-month term, a decision agreed upon by the Forum on August 6, 2023.
Expressing dissatisfaction with the state executives led by Oba, a resolute motion resulted in a vote of no confidence, citing allegations of power abuse and deviation from the 2018 NYCN constitution. The Forum emphatically pledged its allegiance to upholding the council’s best interests.
In a strategic move to streamline communication and enhance collaboration, coordinators unanimously decided to exit existing platforms, giving way to the creation of the ‘Forum of Coordinators 2023-2024.’
Underlining the transformation, coordinators proposed a new leadership structure, electing Comr Moibi Ibrahim as Chairman, Babatunde Opeyemi Yusuf as Secretary, and Comr Oshodi John Ayodele as PRO for a one-year term, providing flexibility for potential changes.
To oversee the election process, coordinators appointed Comr Fasaasi Musa and Comr Aina Adewale as members of the electoral committee.
The bold decisions continued with a second vote of no confidence on the state executives, citing concerns of abuse of office, constitutional override, and financial mismanagement.
In a joint communiqué, the newly elected leaders expressed gratitude for the stability brought by the interim committee and called for cooperation with the State Chairman.
They emphasized their commitment to upholding the NYCN constitution and propelling the council forward.
Below is the communiqué and list of coordinators in attendance, as signed in the attendance sheet.
