Mali recalls ambassador from Algeria following allegation of Interference
Mali has recalled its ambassador from Algeria, accusing the neighboring country of interference in its internal affairs.
The move comes in the wake of alleged meetings between Algerian officials and rebel leaders, deepening the longstanding discord between the two nations regarding efforts to quell the armed rebellion in northern Mali.
Mali’s junta in a letter from the Malian embassy to the Algerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. declared on Friday that Ambassador Mahamane Amadou Maiga would be withdrawn from Algeria for consultation with immediate effect.
It would be recalled that Algeria has played a crucial role as the primary mediator in brokering a 2015 peace deal between Mali and local Tuareg rebels.
In 2012, the rebels ousted the Malian military from the region, triggering a series of events that plunged the country into instability for over a decade.
However, the accord collapsed as both parties accused each other of non-compliance, exacerbating the ongoing challenges in the region.
The recall of the ambassador underscores the strain in diplomatic relations and adds complexity to the delicate peace process, raising concerns about the potential ramifications for regional stability.
