Gov Adeleke ready to commercialise sports, invites Masai Ujiri to Osun
Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has pledged his readiness to build and commercialise sports activities through public-private partnerships in the state.
Mr. Adeleke made the pronouncement while responding to Masai Michael Ujiri, a professional basketballer, at the ongoing leadership retreat organized by the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, NGF, in collaboration with UNDP.
Ujiri, who holds Nigerian and Canadian citizenship and was also a top player in the two countries, visited the conference centre in Rwanda, urging Nigeria governors to collaborate with private investors to drive the needed sport development and facilitate its commercialization.
He cited examples of several developed countries that have benefited immensely from such partnerships.
Responding to the call, Mr Adeleke assured the professional basketballer of the readiness of his administration to obey his call and invited Masai Ujiri to State of Osun for more deliberation.
“I will invite you to Osun state in Nigeria. Come with sports investors. Osun is open for sport as a tool for economic development,” the Governor maintained.
