Somalia Army kills dozens of Al-shabaab insurgents in renewed anti-terror fight
The Somalia National Army (SNA), has announced that it has successfully neutralized about 20 al-Shabaab insurgents in a planned military operation in a collaboration with international partners conducted in the Lower Shabelle area.
According to military officials, the army conducted a targeted and perfectly executed offensive on two specific locations, which were identified as sites where al-Shabaab terrorists were gathering and discussing methods for the construction of explosive devices intended for future assaults.
Authorities said both structures were rendered inoperable as a result of the assault, and the plan for retaliations were effectively over powered by the men of Somali Army.
The administration in the South West recently announced its plan to launch regular offensive against the al-Shabaab group within districts currently under their control.
In the meantime, Somalia’s federal government has restated its determination to liberate the country from the clutches of al-Shabaab by the end of 2023.
In line with this goal, the government has prepared a force of 20,000 Somali soldiers ready to launch a massive operation against al-Shabab.
In January, a US air strike assisting government troops in the country killed about 30 Al-Shabaab militants.
The operation took place near the town of Galcad, about 260km (162 miles) northeast of the capital Mogadishu.
