Coach Waldrum praises Super Falcons despite defeat to England
Super Falcons head coach, Randy Waldrum has praised the brilliant Nigerian team despite their elimination from the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
The nine-time African champions were eliminated in the Round of 16 after a 4-2 penalty shootout loss to the European champions, England, on Monday.
The Super Falcons dominated possession and twice hit the crossbar in the winner-takes-all encounter.
Speaking on the performance of the team, Waldrum said he is proud of his players’ display against the Three Lionesses despite their missed chances.
“I’m so proud of them, to come in and play like we did tonight. We had every opportunity to get it done. Unfortunately, we couldn’t quite get it done,” he told FIFA.com.
He added that “We had the best chances, we hit the crossbar twice. When it gets to penalties, it’s anyone’s game.”
