Labour Party drops Gbadebo few hours to election
The Labour Party has dropped its governorship candidate, Gbadegbo Rhodes-VivOur.
This was disclosed in a statement signed by State Secretary, Sami Okpala, Friday March 17, 2023.
According to the statement, Gbadebo has been replaced by Professor Ifagbemi Awamaridi as the validly nominated gubernatarial candidate of the Labour Party.
“Our attention has been drawn to the news circulating on social media and some mainstream medium pertaining to the reinstatement of Professor Ifagbemi Awamaridi as the validly nominated gubernatarial candidate of the Labour Party by a court of competent jurisdiction,” the statement read.
It added, “We wish to state categorically that the Labour Party leadership reckon and agree that the petitioner participated in the organized primary elections and was declared winner.
“However, the political arrangement that brought Mr Gbadegbo Rhodes-VivOur into the equation isn’t one for public consumption.
“We can confirm we are in receipt of the said court ruling and have communicated our intentions through our legal team to comply with the rulings to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC)
“Consequently, as a law-abiding political party whose core principle is to adhere strictiy to the rule of law and uphold same, we are alerting members of the public and our teeming members that Professor Ifagbemi Awamaridi is our governorship candidate in Lagos state for the scheduled gubernatorial elections taking place tomorrow, 18th of March, 2023.”
