The Ministry of Foreign Affairs Ghana has announced the successful rescue of 44 Ghanaian nationals from a fraudulent recruitment and trafficking network operating in Nigeria.

In a press release issued in Accra on March 21, 2026, the Ministry disclosed that the victims were lured through deceptive offers, including fake employment and travel opportunities circulated via social media and informal channels. Upon arrival in Nigeria, they were reportedly subjected to harsh and exploitative conditions, including restricted movement and psychological coercion.

The rescue operation, carried out on March 16, involved Nigerian security agencies, including the Department of State Services, working in collaboration with Ghanaian authorities. The victims were safely repatriated to Accra on March 20.

The Ghanaian government expressed appreciation to Nigerian authorities for their swift intervention and reaffirmed its commitment to dismantling human trafficking networks while ensuring the rehabilitation and reintegration of the victims.

“The Government reiterates its strong condemnation of human trafficking and remains committed to safeguarding the welfare of Ghanaian nationals both at home and abroad.”
