Governor Adeleke Dumps PDP
Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), a move that intensifies the already deepening crisis within the party less than 24 hours before its scheduled governorship primary.
The PDP’s State Chairman, Sunday Bisi, had earlier announced on Monday that the Tuesday primary would no longer hold due to internal factional clashes. He also disclosed that Adeleke had opted out of the race amid the escalating turmoil.
But a conflicting directive said to have come from the PDP National Secretariat insisted that the primary must proceed as planned, naming the Atlantic Multipurpose Hall in Osogbo as the venue. The contradictory positions have further thrown the state chapter into confusion.
A resignation letter dated November 4, 2025, surfaced Monday evening, confirming Adeleke’s exit from the party. Addressed to the PDP Chairman of Sagba Ward 2 in Ede North, the letter cited the crisis within the party as the reason for his decision.
“Due to the current crisis of the national leadership of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), I hereby resign my membership of the People’s Democratic Party with immediate effect,” the governor wrote.
Adeleke also expressed appreciation to the party for backing his political journey. “I thank the People’s Democratic Party for the opportunities given to me for my elections as a Senator (Represented Osun West) and as Governor of Osun State under the People’s Democratic Party.”
His exit, coming on the eve of a contentious primary, is expected to heighten political tension in Osun State and raises fresh concerns over the PDP’s stability ahead of the 2026 governorship election.
