The United States government has officially designated Nigeria as a “Country of Particular Concern” (CPC) following what it described as persistent and widespread killings of Christians across the West African nation.

In a statement released by the U.S. President Donald Trump via his social media handle, Trump expressed grave concern over what he termed the “mass slaughter” of Christians by radical Islamist groups in Nigeria.

“Christianity is facing an existential threat in Nigeria. Thousands of Christians are being killed. Radical Islamists are responsible for this mass slaughter,” Trump said. “I am hereby making Nigeria a ‘Country of Particular Concern.’ But that is the least of it. When Christians, or any such group, is slaughtered like is happening in Nigeria, something must be done!”

The former U.S. leader further called on Congressman Riley Moore, Chairman Tom Cole, and the House Appropriations Committee to investigate the situation and present a report, emphasizing that the U.S. “cannot stand by while such atrocities are happening in Nigeria and other countries.”

The designation places Nigeria under international scrutiny and could lead to diplomatic actions or sanctions aimed at addressing religious persecution and human rights violations within the country.
