The Federal Government has announced new measures aimed at maintaining the recent reduction in food prices and ensuring long-term stability in Nigeria’s food supply system.

The Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Abubakar Kyari, in a statement on Tuesday, said the initiative aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and focuses on supporting farmers with affordable agricultural inputs.

According to Kyari, the government is prioritizing the distribution of fertilizers, improved seeds, and irrigation materials to farmers nationwide to boost productivity and reduce production costs.

He added that the Ministry is also establishing community-based silos and storage facilities to curb post-harvest losses and guarantee the steady availability of staple foods throughout the year.

“These localized storage systems will empower farming communities to manage their harvests more efficiently and reduce dependency on external storage infrastructure,” the Minister noted.

Kyari stated that the Ministry is deepening collaborations with state governments, the private sector, and farmer associations to improve productivity, enhance market efficiency, and create more jobs within the agricultural sector.

He further revealed that additional initiatives in mechanization and rural infrastructure are underway to make agriculture more attractive and sustainable for Nigerians.
