In a disturbing revelation that exposes deep-rooted sabotage, Nigerian Army troops under Operation Hadin Kai have busted a major fuel-smuggling ring allegedly supplying Boko Haram insurgents in the Gwoza axis of Borno State and parts of Cameroon.

The dramatic raid took place at Hadiza and Sadiq Filling Station in Maiduguri, where troops caught workers red-handed, loading fuel into 500 jerrycans—a massive quantity believed to be destined for terrorist-controlled areas.

According to intelligence obtained by frontline reporter Zagazola Makama, the operation was the result of weeks of surveillance tracking unpatriotic fuel merchants who often use modified vehicles like Volkswagen Golf cars to move petrol secretly. Once transported, the fuel would be siphoned into jerrycans and smuggled to insurgent camps, especially toward Pulka and border communities in Cameroon, where Ali Ngulde’s faction of Boko Haram remains active.

Several suspects were apprehended on the spot and during initial interrogation, they confessed to ferrying the products to locations linked with terrorism. Though they claimed not to know the identities of those receiving the fuel, investigators believe they are part of a well-coordinated, treasonous network aiding terrorism under the guise of business.

A military source lamented, “These are not ordinary fuel sellers—they are economic saboteurs and enablers of terrorism. Their actions are costing innocent Nigerian lives every single day.”

Authorities have expressed outrage over the complicity of licensed filling stations in fueling insurgency and vowed to tighten surveillance on fuel supply chains across the North East. The military also assured that all collaborators—no matter how connected—will face the full wrath of the law.

This operation sends a stern warning to those sabotaging national security under the cloak of business: the military is watching, and the days of impunity are numbered.
