Several Arab nations have strongly denounced the failed assassination attempt on Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, expressing unwavering support for Somalia’s security and stability.

The Somali government reported that an explosion in Mogadishu on Tuesday was an attempt on Mohamud’s life by al-Shabaab terrorists.

According to the Information Ministry, “Mohamud’s convoy was attacked at approximately 10:32 a.m. (0732GMT) in the Xamar-Jajab district of Mogadishu” while he was heading to Mogadishu International Airport en route to the frontlines in Hirshabelle state. The al-Qaeda-affiliated group later claimed responsibility.

Leaders across the Arab world swiftly condemned the attack. UAE President Mohamed bin Zayed personally called Mohamud to check on his wellbeing, offering “heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims and the Somali people.”

Qatar’s Foreign Ministry reiterated “its firm stance against violence and terrorism, regardless of its motives,” while Jordan’s spokesperson Sufyan Qudah denounced “all forms of political violence, particularly those targeting public and political figures.”

Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Bahrain, Yemen, and Palestine all rejected the attack, reaffirming their commitment to Somalia’s stability.

The Arab League labeled it “a blatant assault” and called for stronger international efforts to combat terror financing.

The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) also condemned the “heinous act” and pledged solidarity with Somalia in its ongoing fight against terrorism.
