Egypt rejects Trump proposal to ‘clean out’ Gazans, says “we cannot take part in injustice”
Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi firmly opposed any forced displacement of Palestinians from Gaza, calling it an “injustice that we cannot take part in.”
His remarks came during a press conference in Cairo alongside Kenyan President William Ruto, following U.S. President Donald Trump’s suggestion to relocate Palestinians to Egypt and Jordan.
El-Sisi reiterated Egypt’s unwavering stance on the Palestinian issue, emphasizing that his country would not compromise its historic position. “The deportation and displacement of the Palestinian people from their land is an injustice that we cannot take part in,” he stated.
He further affirmed Egypt’s commitment to a two-state solution and expressed willingness to work with Trump to achieve a lasting peace in the Middle East.
Trump, after the Israel-Hamas ceasefire on January 19, floated a controversial plan to “clean out” Gaza, suggesting that Palestinians should move to “safer” locations such as Egypt or Jordan.
Speaking on Monday, he speculated that El-Sisi and Jordan’s King Abdullah II might accept Gazan refugees, citing U.S. assistance to both nations.
However, Jordan also rejected the proposal outright, asserting, “Jordan is for Jordanians and Palestine is for Palestinians.” Both countries have consistently warned that any mass displacement of Palestinians would undermine the prospect of a Palestinian state.
