British-Nigerian MP appointed UK trade envoy to Nigeria
British-Nigerian politician Florence Eshalomi has been appointed as the United Kingdom’s Trade Envoy to Nigeria, marking her as the second Nigerian to hold the prestigious role.
Eshalomi, 44, who represents the Vauxhall and Camberwell Green constituency, holds a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Political and International Studies with Law from Middlesex University.
Her appointment was officially announced on Tuesday by the UK’s Business and Trade Secretary, Jonathan Reynolds, as part of efforts to enhance economic partnerships and attract investment.
“I’ve launched a new team of trade envoys who will use their experience, expertise, and knowledge to unlock new markets around the world for British businesses, attract investment into the UK, and ultimately drive economic growth,” Reynolds stated.
Eshalomi, in response to her appointment, expressed her enthusiasm on X, formerly Twitter: “It is an honour to have been appointed as the United Kingdom’s Trade Envoy to Nigeria. I’m looking forward to building on my close ties with Nigeria to promote a strong and flourishing economic relationship between our two great nations.”
With her extensive political experience and deep-rooted ties to Nigeria, Eshalomi is expected to play a key role in strengthening trade relations and fostering new economic opportunities between the UK and Nigeria.
