Police intercept armed suspects, recover weapons, stolen vehicle in Anambra

Operatives of the Special Anti-Cult Squad in Enugwu Ukwu have apprehended two suspects in a security operation on the Umudioka-Awkuzu road near Igbariam, Anambra State.

The operation, conducted at 5:38 PM, resulted in the recovery of a Beretta pistol, two live rounds of ammunition, and a white Toyota Corolla with registration number YAB 26 CB.

The arrested suspects, identified as 22-year-old Raphael Peverga and Saakura Teryima, both from Benue State, were part of a group of four occupants in the vehicle. Two other suspects managed to flee and are currently being pursued by law enforcement.

According to the Anambra State Police Command, the suspects attempted to evade arrest by jumping out of the moving vehicle after being instructed by officers to stop for a security search.

Commissioner of Police Nnaghe Obono Itam has assured the public that the command remains committed to implementing effective strategies to combat criminal activities in the state.

Police Public Relations Officer SP Tochukwu Ikenga emphasized the ongoing efforts to apprehend the remaining suspects, reaffirming the command’s dedication to ensuring safety and order across the region.
