The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has announced a major change to the West African Senior Secondary Examinations (WASSCE), allowing candidates to re-sit their papers as early as January and February 2025.

Under this new initiative, students who need to retake one or more papers will have the opportunity to do so in January and February 2025.

This shift marks a departure from the previous system, where students had to wait for the next private exam cycle.

According to John Kapi, Head of Public Affairs at WAEC, students who realise they need to re-sit exams after accessing their results can register for the re-sit exams by January 8. Registration can be done online via the WAEC website or at accredited internet cafes.

The re-sit exams will be held from January 24 to February 15, 2025.

“Students who access their results now and realise they need to resit one or two papers have until 8th January to register online through our website or at WAEC-accredited internet cafés. “The exams will take place from 24th January to 15th February 2025,” Kapi said.

Additionally, students whose results were cancelled for any reason can also sit for the WASSCE PC1 exams, provided they have not been banned due to malpractice.

This new system aims to offer more flexibility and reduce the waiting time for students who need to retake their exams, making it a notable change in the examination process.
