Kano: Government pledges action as Cyprus university withholds Nigerian graduates certificates
Governor Abba Yusuf has pledged to secure the academic certificates of Kano graduates stranded in Cyprus due to unpaid tuition fees.
In a statement released on Monday, the governor acknowledged the plight of students unable to retrieve their certificates from Near East University, a situation stemming from unpaid fees during the previous administration. Many of the affected students, particularly those in medicine and nursing who graduated between 2015 and 2019, have faced career stagnation as a result.
During a meeting with the university’s management, Governor Yusuf emphasized the critical need for skilled professionals in sectors like healthcare. He described the situation as a major setback for both the graduates and Kano State.
The discussions, which the governor termed “fruitful,” centered on resolving the financial liabilities to facilitate the release of the certificates. Governor Yusuf expressed optimism about the outcome, highlighting his administration’s dedication to addressing systemic challenges in the education sector.
“This intervention underscores the administration’s commitment to ensuring that these graduates can fulfill their potential and contribute significantly to Kano State’s development,” the statement concluded.
