Port Harcourt refinery producing 1.4 million liters of PMS daily, NNPCL clarifies
The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has affirmed that the revitalized 60,000 barrels-per-day Port Harcourt Refinery is operational and producing significant volumes of petroleum products, countering claims suggesting otherwise.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, Olufemi Soneye, Chief Corporate Communications Officer of NNPCL, disclosed that the refinery is functioning at 70% of its installed capacity, with daily outputs including 1.4 million liters of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), also known as petrol.
Additionally, the refinery produces 900,000 liters of kerosene, 1.5 million liters of diesel (Automotive Gas Oil), and 2.1 million liters of Low Pour Fuel Oil (LPFO).
The company further revealed plans to increase the refinery’s operational capacity to 90%.
“We are aware of unfounded claims by certain individuals suggesting that the refinery is not producing products. “For clarity, the Old Port Harcourt Refinery is currently operating at 70% of its installed capacity, with plans to ramp up to 90%”, the statement clarified.
The refinery’s output includes Straight-Run Gasoline (Naphtha), which is blended into PMS, ensuring a steady supply of key petroleum products.
NNPCL‘s assurance comes amidst heightened scrutiny over the performance of Nigeria’s refining sector and its impact on the country’s energy landscape.
This development is expected to contribute to reducing Nigeria’s reliance on imported fuel, addressing both economic and supply chain concerns.
