Botched anti-ageing experiment: Millionaire’s face ‘blows up’ after self-injection
Bryan Johnson, a 47-year-old millionaire known for his ambitious efforts to reverse ageing, suffered a severe allergic reaction after injecting donor fat into his face in a bid to restore volume lost from his strict vegan diet.
The former tech mogul, who spends $2 million annually on anti-ageing procedures, shared his ordeal on Instagram, showing his swollen face and puffy eyelids that left him almost unable to see. The treatment, dubbed “Project Baby Face,” aimed to counteract the gaunt look caused by his 1,950-calorie daily diet. “People thought I was on the brink of death,” Johnson said.
Lacking sufficient body fat for the procedure, Johnson opted for a donor. However, the injection triggered a reaction that worsened over seven days before his face returned to normal. “It got worse, and worse, and worse until I couldn’t even see,” he recounted.
Johnson, who made $800 million from selling his payments processing company in 2013, is on a mission to “reverse biology,” aiming to make his organs function as if he were 18. He credits his regime with slowing his ageing pace by 24%.
Despite this setback, Johnson continues his rigorous anti-ageing lifestyle, which includes taking over 100 daily supplements and consuming 70 pounds of pureed vegetables monthly. His previous experiments include receiving blood transfusions from his teenage son.
Johnson remains undeterred, joking to a journalist about his appearance: “I think I’m ok. If I’m not, are you trained to perform life-saving actions?”
