Ogun: Gov. Dapo Abiodun announces date for partial opening of abandoned specialist hospital
Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State has announced that the abandoned 250-bed hospital in Abeokuta, inherited from the previous administration, will be partially opened in March and fully operational by June.
Speaking on Thursday in Abeokuta during the facility’s formal handover to Viewpoint Health Management Services Limited and Pan African Capital Holdings, Mr. Abiodun noted that the hospital, now 65% completed, would deliver “world-class health services to Nigerians” once finished.
Under the contractual agreement, Viewpoint Health Management Services Limited will oversee the hospital’s completion, including the installation of equipment, and manage operations for a designated period. The governor emphasized, “We will work tirelessly alongside them to provide world-class healthcare for our people.”
Mr. Abiodun highlighted that the facility, equipped with advanced technology, is designed to address the state’s healthcare needs and reduce dependence on medical tourism, saving significant foreign exchange. He also described the project as a cornerstone for the state’s long-term healthcare growth.
Chris Oshiafi, Chairman of Pan African Capital Holdings, revealed that negotiations for the takeover began three years ago, while Tony Decoito, Chairman of Viewpoint HealthShare South Africa, assured that efforts would focus on the hospital’s timely completion.
The hospital, once fully operational, is expected to set a benchmark for quality healthcare delivery in the region.
