Taraba governor approves 70,000 new minimum wage
Governor Agbu Kefas of Taraba State has approved an increase in the minimum wage for public sector workers to 70,000 Naira.
The announcement was made on Wednesday in a statement signed by the Head of Service, Paul Maigida Tino, who confirmed that the wage adjustment will take effect immediately, with payments beginning in November.
“I wish to inform you that the governor of Taraba State, Dr. Agbu Kefas, has approved the implementation of a 70,000 Naira new minimum wage for workers in the state with effect from November 2024,” stated Tino.
The decision reflects the administration’s commitment to improving the welfare of state employees amid rising living costs.
Recall that President Bola Tinubu, in July, approved a new minimum wage of N70,000 for Nigerian workers and pledged to review the national minimum wage law every three years.
The approval came after the leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress and the Trade Union Congress met and agreed with the President on the newly agreed wage at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
