Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State has indefinitely suspended the collection of all state revenues, particularly in motor parks and other key areas.

The suspension, effective immediately, will remain in place until further notice, as announced in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Fred Itua.

The governor has also directed the State Commissioner of Police to arrest anyone found violating the suspension order. Governor Okpebholo plans to conduct a thorough review of the revenue collection processes across the state to assess improvements and determine the next course of action.

The measure aims to enhance transparency and address reported issues within the current system, ensuring more effective and fair revenue collection for the state.

“The collection of revenues in the State has been suspended indefinitely. Anyone seen collecting revenues on behalf of the State Government will be arrested,” the statement read.

“The Commissioner of Police is hereby ordered to arrest anyone who flouts this directive and collects any form of revenue on behalf of the State Government.

“The Governor will soon address the issues and concerns raised and issue new directives. Until then, no one is authorized to collect revenues on behalf of the State Government,” the statement concluded.
