Governor Siminalayi  Fubara of Rivers State has sounded an alarm over alleged plans to mobilize 20 persons per unit to target the newly inaugurated local government chairmen in the state.

During the swearing-in ceremony of the chairmen in Port Harcourt, the state capital, Fubara cautioned the newly elected officials to exercise restraint and vigilance.

The governor advised the chairmen to be strategic and calculated in their approach, amidst the reported threats.

22 of the chairmen were from the Action Peoples Party, while one contested on the platform of the Action Alliance.

Fubara said: “I’m aware that there are plans to mobilise 20 people per unit to confront you when you return to your local government headquarters.

“If they come with violence, avoid them. The peace of this state is too important to us. Everyone knows what they are planning, but I urge you to follow my approach.

“At the right time, you will always win if you are patient and calculative. We have made our promises to our people, and we are committed to leading them to the Promised Land.”
