The Nigeria Police Force has made headlines with a sweeping operation that resulted in the arrest of 2,726 suspects involved in high-profile criminal activities, the recovery of 150 firearms, and the rescue of 207 kidnapped victims—all within the span of just one month.
This significant crackdown was led by Inspector General of Police Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, PhD, NPM.
During a recent press conference, the IGP paraded the apprehended suspects, who range from armed robbers to kidnappers, signaling a clear message that crime will not be tolerated in Nigeria.
Among the notable cases highlighted was that of 30-year-old Hauwa Yusuf from Dutsin-Ma LGA of Katsina State. Yusuf was intercepted while traveling from Lafia, Nasarawa State, to Katsina State in a Sienna bus along the Abuja-Kaduna Expressway. A thorough search revealed an AK-47 rifle, along with four magazines, cleverly concealed in a sack of garri.
During interrogation, she confessed to delivering the weapons for a notorious bandit wreaking havoc in Katsina State.
The IGP emphasized the police relentless pursuit of justice and their dedication to safeguarding the lives and properties of Nigerian citizens.
This operation not only reflects the ongoing efforts to maintain law and order but also aims to instill a renewed sense of security within communities nationwide.
