The Kaduna State Security Council, under the leadership of Governor Uba Sani, has announced the complete removal of the curfew in Kaduna and Zaria towns and their environs.

The decision comes after an extensive review of the security situation and is effective immediately, from today, Tuesday, 13th August 2024.

Following the curfew removal, law-abiding citizens are now free to move and engage in legitimate activities without restriction. The decision was reached during an extensive assessment held last night, where the Security Council unanimously recommended lifting the curfew.

The council emphasized its ongoing commitment to ensuring the security and safety of the citizenry in Kaduna State.

Gov Sani, presiding over the briefing, expressed his gratitude to the leadership of the security agencies, religious and traditional leaders, and all critical stakeholders for their roles in containing the unfortunate events that followed recent protests in Kaduna and Zaria.

He assured stakeholders of his inclusive and participatory stance, pledging to continue engaging them to ensure the peace, unity, and development of Kaduna State.

The Security Council has also issued a stern warning that any processions or gatherings must be verified with the relevant agencies to prevent any breakdown of law and order. This measure is aimed at ensuring the overall security of the general public. Furthermore, security forces will remain vigilant, looking out for threats to public peace, and will prosecute individuals or groups posing such threats.

Samuel Aruwan, the Overseeing Commissioner of the Ministry of Internal Security and Home Affairs, stated that the Security Council’s decision reflects a proactive approach to maintaining peace and stability in the region. He reiterated that security forces will continue to monitor the situation closely to safeguard the public.

The lifting of the curfew is seen as a positive development, welcomed by residents who can now resume their daily activities without the constraints of the previous restrictions. This move is expected to foster a sense of normalcy and contribute to the socio-economic development of Kaduna and Zaria towns.
