Somalia government forces announce capture near Hudur
The Somalia National Army’s 9th Battalion has conducted operations against the Al-Shabaab group, securing villages near Hudur in the Bakool region.
The targeted areas, located to the west of Hudur, were previously under Al-Shabaab control for an extended period.
Military officials informed the national media that the army has reclaimed the villages of Eedanow and Ceelahaley, which were significant strongholds for Al-Shabaab’s operations against Hudur.
These operations around Hudur coincide with recent reports suggesting that Al-Shabaab was close to seizing the town, the administrative center of Bakool.
The Federal Government of Somalia has repeatedly asserted its commitment to intensifying the fight against Al-Shabaab. Recently, the President stated that it is possible to defeat the group in the near future.
The Somalia government recently reported that approximately one hundred al-Shabaab members have surrendered across the South-Central states of Galmudug, Southwest, HirShabelle, and Jubaland.
The government’s efforts to combat al-Shabaab have been bolstered by the support of the international community in recent times.
The African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS), and other international partners have assisted in the fight against terrorism, helping to create the conditions necessary for peace and stability to take root.
Afri Reporters reported that the European Union (EU) approved 116.9 million U.S. dollars for stabilisation efforts in Somalia.
