Somali president performs Umrah, prays for security and development
The President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, said he has offered prayers for security, peace, and development for the Somali people and government.
The president, said this after he performed the Umrah pilgrimage ritual at the Haram Mosque in Makkah, Saudi Arabia.
President Sheikh Mahmoud was received at the King Abdulaziz International Airport by the Deputy Governor of Makkah Region, Prince Saud bin Mishal bin Abdulaziz, and several other officials.
In a statement posted on X, President Hassan Sheikh said he prayed fervently for the grace of Ramadan Umrah and sought divine intervention for Somalia to triumph over exploitative terrorists who distort the noble principles of Islam.
According to the statement, the President’s prayers come amidst ongoing efforts to address security challenges and foster development in Somalia.
While circumambulating the Haram Mosque in the company of other dignitaries from Somalia and Saudi Arabia, the President expressed his determination to combat terrorism and prayed for the nation’s progress.
The Umrah is a highly recommended pilgrimage in Islam which holds deep spiritual significance for Muslims worldwide, symbolizing devotion, humility, and unity in faith.
