AU, African leaders extend congratulations to Senegal’s president, express hopes for deeper ties

African Union Commission as well as other African leaders have united in congratulating Bassirou Diomaye Faye on his ascension to the presidency of Senegal.

The inauguration ceremony, held in Dakar, witnessed the formal induction of President Faye as the fifth head of state of the Republic of Senegal and one of the youngest in the history of the West African nation.

Among those extending their felicitations was Moussa Faki Mahamat, Chairperson of the African Union Commission, who joined West African leaders and throngs of Senegalese citizens in commemorating the historic occasion.

In a tweet, Faki expressed his solidarity, stating: “I joined West African leaders and thousands of Senegalese for the Inauguration ceremony in #Dakar today of H.E. President @DiomayeFaye as the fifth president of the Republic of #Senegal.”

Similarly, Kenyan President William Samoei Ruto hailed President Faye’s victory as decisive, lauding his visionary leadership and pledging to bolster bilateral relations between Kenya and Senegal for mutual prosperity.

Ruto emphasized the importance of collaborative efforts in advancing shared interests.

“Congratulations Bassirou Diomaye Faye on your decisive election victory. Your visionary leadership is inspiring and sets an unmatched example for emerging leaders. As you assume office today, we undertake to working with you to escalate Kenya-Senegal ties for our shared prosperity,” Ruto tweeted.

Echoing sentiments of goodwill, Hakainde Hichilema, President of Zambia, conveyed his congratulations to President Faye, highlighting the resounding mandate bestowed upon him by the Senegalese electorate.

Hichilema expressed optimism about the prospects of strengthening bilateral cooperation between Zambia and Senegal under Faye’s leadership.

“Congratulations to H.E @DiomayeFaye on being sworn in as 5th President of Senegal. This election victory is a resounding testimony of the confidence in your leadership by the Senegalese people. We look forward to deepening the bilateral ties between our 2 countries,” Hichilema tweeted.
