Marriage heads to breaking point after wife blocks husband on social media, sparks concern over online influence
A Muslim marriage counsellor, mallam Sani Kay Yusuf, has re-emphasised the need for husbands to be mindful of the group their wives belong to on social media as part of efforts to cut the rising spate of divorce induced by the use of social media.
The call follows a shocking discovery that is on the verge of splitting a well-constituted and happy marriage after a man discovers his wife had blocked him on social media platforms such as Facebook and WhatsApp status updates, a revelation made apparent through another individual’s posts.
The discovery has thrown their marriage into disarray, with the husband bewildered by the lack of a plausible explanation from his spouse regarding her actions.
This unfolding scenario underscores the complexities of modern relationships and the potential pitfalls of miscommunication in the digital age.
Mallam Kay Sani Yusuf then called on Muslim husbands to be mindful of the sister-only groups their wives will join where conflicting ideologies may be espoused.
He highlighted that there are good ones though, but there are some wherein disobedience is technocratically taught, and some of their tutors are well-covered Muslim women who are supposed to be home builders.
Ultimately, this episode serves as a cautionary tale, highlighting the importance of open communication, mutual respect, and discernment in navigating the complexities of modern relationships.
The Counsellor wrote on his official Facebook page, “Somebody didn’t know his wife had blocked him on Facebook and Whatsapp Status until he read my posts — that such is what is trending now. The marriage, right now, is in a mess, as the wife could not give a tenable reason the husband was blocked. I doubt if it will ever be well with those unsalaried tutors teaching our women “technocratic disobedience”. Dear brothers, Kindly monitor the Sisiter-only groups your wives will join. There are good ones though, but there are some wherein disobedience is technocratically taught, and some of their tutors are our niqābīs and jilbābīs – people who are supposed to be home builders.”
