In a scathing critique of the current administration led by President Bola Tinubu, renowned hip-hop artiste, Eedris Abdulkareem, expressed his dissatisfaction during a live TV show.

Abdulkareem, known for his socially conscious lyrics, lamented the state of the nation, echoing sentiments from his album 21 years ago titled “Nigeria jagajaga.”

Addressing the economic aspect, Abdulkareem pointed out the currency devaluation over the years, citing that during Jonathan’s tenure, the dollar stood at N198. However, he highlighted that the immediate past president left it at N300, and under Tinubu’s administration, it had surged to a staggering N1,600.

In a passionate plea, the artist questioned the government’s ability to ensure the survival of its citizens amidst the economic challenges, emphasizing the prevailing hunger across the country.

“How do you want people to survive in this country? There is hunger everywhere,” Abdulkareem remarked.

Drawing attention to the impact on the Yorùbá people, the artist stated, “The Yorùbá people shouting èmi lókàn up and down are the ones hungry dey kill pass”

This phrase encapsulates the anguish and hardship faced by the Yorùbá community under the current economic conditions.

Abdulkareem’s outspoken criticism adds to the ongoing discourse surrounding governance and economic policies in Nigeria, as citizens grapple with the challenges of inflation and its adverse effects on their daily lives.

The artiste’s bold statements reflect the frustration and concern shared by many Nigerians as they navigate the complexities of the nation’s economic landscape.
