The President of the Republic of Angola, João Lourenço, has consoled the country’s national football team following their hard-fought defeat against the Super Eagles of Nigeria at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

Nigeria’s Super Eagles dumped the Palancas Negras out of the competition on Friday.

Ademola Lookman fired home the game’s only goal to secure the semi-final ticket for Nigeria at the expense of their oil-rich opponent.

While consoling the national football team, President Lourenço lauded the Antelopes for playing out their heart in the competition while adding that the team had learned the right lessons ahead of the subsequent edition of the tournament.

Angolan President wrote (as translated) on his official X social network account, “In this CAN we did well, but we need to improve, learning from our mistakes.

“Don’t be discouraged; the next one will be ours, just depending on all of us, MINJUD, FAF, Palancas, and all Angolan fans.”
