Plateau: Protesting women set house of traditional ruler on fire, give reason
Enraged by the recent Boko Haram attack in the communities of Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State, central Nigeria, some women burnt down the house of the district head of the town, Michael Adanchi.
Reports say the incident occurred around 12:30 am Nigerian time.
In their dozens, the women burned the house after the arrest of some members of the community for their alleged involvement in the recent killings in the area.
Daily Trust quoted a source saying, “The incident began at the police station where they expressed their anger over the arrest of some members of the community. After leaving the police station, they proceeded to the house of the traditional ruler, protesting that he was a sellout. A few minutes after reaching the house, they set it ablaze.”
Troops of the Nigerian Army have been deployed to the area and dispersed the protesting women.
Recall that 23 villages came under violent attacks on the Eve of Christmas, where more than 150 people were killed and hundreds of houses razed.
The attacks also displaced more than 10,000 persons. Until now, many of the victims are still taking refuge in churches, mosques, schools, and private residences.
