US delivers 230 planes, 20 ships loaded with arms to Israel as Gaza war rages
Israel has received 230 cargo planes and 20 ships loaded with weapons and military equipment from the United States since the outbreak of the Gaza conflict on Oct. 7, according to Israeli media on Monday.
According to the Yediot Ahronoth daily, US military assistance includes artillery ammunition, armoured vehicles, and basic fighting tools for soldiers.
The ongoing conflict in Gaza is estimated by Israel’s Defense Ministry to have cost roughly 65 billion shekels ($17 billion).
The newspaper was quoted by Anadolu as saying that the army had used most of the ammunition in its warehouses at the beginning of the war.
“But Israel managed to re-fill its warehouses in preparation for a possible large-scale war with the Lebanese Hezbollah group,” it added.
The ongoing military campaign in Gaza by Israel is one of the most destructive in recent years.
More than 20,000 people have been killed—mostly children and women—by the Israeli forces and 54,000 injured in Gaza since the war started.
In the meantime, reports from Israel and Arab nations say Egypt, which borders the Gaza Strip, is working towards a new proposal for a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas.
Indirect negotiations are expected to be held in Egypt, with Qatari and US participation anticipated.
