Health ministry says 70 people killed in Israeli airstrike on refugee camp late Sunday
The health ministry in Gaza says an Israeli air attack in the central Al-Maghazi refugee camp killed at least 70.
The latest casualties has increased the growing number of death toll in the enclave as Israel continues its military offensives in Gaza.
Dozens of injured people were rushed from Maghazi to nearby Al-Aqsa Hospital with children severely injured in a footage that also showed body bags piled outside.
The health ministry in Gaza also confirmed that the attack which occurred late Sunday affected three houses.
The Israeli military, while reacting to the attack, said it had received “reports of an incident in the Maghazi camp.”
In a statement to the BBC, it expressed commitment to international law including taking feasible steps to minimize harm to civilians.
Despite the assurance, more than 20,000 people have been killed – mostly children and women by the Israeli forces- and 54,000 injured in Gaza since the war started.
In the meantime, reports from Israel and Arab nations say Egypt, which borders the Gaza Strip, is working towards a new proposal for a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas.
Indirect negotiations are expected to be held in Egypt with Qatari and US participation anticipated.
