RSF seizes another important town in central Sudan
Sudan’s paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) has announced the seizure of another town and a military base in Gezira state.
The RSF said it “liberated the second infantry division” of Sudanese armed forces in al-Hasaheisa town.
This is coming barely some days after they took the state’s capital Wad Madani, after heavy fighting with the Sudanese army.
Clashes in Wad Madani city, according to the Preliminary Committee of Sudan Doctors’ Union, have killed nearly 300 while several others were injured.
The UN agency International Organisation for Migration (IOM) also disclosed that almost 300,000 people have fled the city due to the clashes.
Fighting has raged since April 15 between the army, led by Gen. Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, the leader of the reigning Sovereign Council, and the RSF in Sudan.
According to the UN, more than 12,000 people have been killed and over 33,000 have been injured as a result of the fighting.
Reports say more than 25 million people of half of the country’s population are in need of dire humanitarian aid.
So far, 7 million people in Sudan have been displaced within the country while others have ran in search of safety in neighboring countries.
