Chief of Army Staff pays condolence visit to Kaduna over deadly accidental drone strike

The Nigerian Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, has paid a condolence visit to Kaduna State following the accidental drone strikes on Sunday night that led to killing of over 90 civilians during Maulud celebration in Tudun Biri village.

The accidental airstrikes also left scores of the villagers.

Gen Lagbaja also visited the Tudun Biri village where he attended the burial of the victims.

The Nigerian Army earlier confirmed that its drone was on a routine mission that “inadvertently affected members of the community.”

Meanwhile, President Bola Tinubu has called for detailed investigation into the accident which was aimed at extremist terrorists operating in the state, calling it one of Nigeria’s deadliest military accidents.

Tinubu said the “the bombing mishap” in Tundun Biri village was “very unfortunate, disturbing and painful,” his spokesperson Ajuri Ngelale said in a statement.

“The president directs a thorough and full-fledged investigation into the incident and calls for calm while the authorities look diligently into the mishap,” said Ngelale.

Report says more than 300 Nigerians have been killed in accidental strikes by the military since 2017.
