NPF takes center stage at COP28, unveils green initiatives for environmental sustainability

The Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has championed the cause of environmental sustainability, unveiling the Nigeria Police Green Initiatives (NPGI).

The captivating motto, “Saving People with Environment,” epitomizes the force’s dedication to combating climate change and embracing eco-friendly practices.

During his speech, the IGP underscored the NPGI’s core mission, aligning it with global endeavors to create a more environmentally conscious society.

Emphasizing the pivotal role law enforcement plays in securing a sustainable future, he rallied for collective support to tackle climate challenges.

Highlighting the global shift towards sustainable energy, the IGP outlined the Police Force’s active involvement in driving energy transition initiatives.

Key announcements included tree planting initiatives across all Police commands, the utilization of gas to power patrol vans, an ongoing campaign for renewable energy adoption in Nigeria, and a strategic plan to illuminate communities and police stations.

This approach aims not only to create well-lit and secure environments but also to contribute to a reduction in crime rates, fostering community development.

Distinguished personalities, including the Executive Governor of Niger State, Mohammed Umar Bago; the Senior Special Assistant on Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), Adefoluke Adefolure, and the Executive Vice Chairman/Chief Executive Officer (EVC/CEO) of the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI), Khalil Suleiman Halilu, were among the notable attendees at the event.

Seizing the moment, the Inspector General of Police called for continued support and collaboration from stakeholders, governments, and communities to collectively address environmental challenges and propel sustainable initiatives forward in Nigeria.
