In a shocking turn of events, the Lagos State Task Force vehemently denies any connection to the car chase that resulted in a fatal accident claiming the lives of two diligent LAWMA officials at the Gbagada axis on Monday morning.

Chairman of the Agency, CSP Shola Jejeloye, emphatically refutes the circulating reports, asserting that no Task Force official was engaged in a pursuit of a suspected traffic offender, ultimately causing the devastating collision that claimed the lives of the LAWMA officials dutifully working by the roadside.

Expressing profound sadness over the incident, Jejeloye states, “It is a very sad and unfortunate as well as an avoidable incident that led to the loss of lives. As an Agency, we have a very firm belief that a traffic offence is not a criminal offence, as such, a traffic offender may be left to escape from the scene of the offence rather than allow such an offender to create madness on the road, that could lead to loss of life.”

Jejeloye clarifies that Taskforce officials were not deployed for traffic enforcement on Monday morning; instead, they were assigned to Ile-Zik, Dopemu, and Ikeja to maintain law and order during the NURTW protest. He emphasizes that the individuals involved in the chase were not wearing Task Force uniforms.

“Investigation is ongoing to uncover those involved in this terrible incident. Anyone found culpable will be made to answer for his crime,” Jejeloye asserts.

He adds that the motorist responsible for evading arrest and causing the tragic incident will also face trial and prosecution.

In a stern warning to overzealous officers, Jejeloye declares, “Anyone caught jeopardising the safety and security of Lagosians all in the name of apprehending a traffic offender will be severely dealt with.”

The Chairman urges Lagosians to maintain peace and trust in the legal process, assuring that justice will be served diligently.

He concludes by emphasizing the importance of adhering to traffic rules and regulations to ensure road safety and minimize accidents in line with the state government’s efforts.
