Breaking: Tottenham angered by racist messages against Italian-Nigerian defender, Destiny Udogie
Tottenham football club have expressed outrage over the racist messages directed towards Destiny Udogie following Spurs’ 2-1 victory over Liverpool on Saturday.
The Italian-Nigerian played a key role for Ange Postecoglou’s men in Tottenham Hotspur’s much celebrated win over the weekend and unfortunately was the victim of racist abuse online after the match.
The left-back posted on Instagram after the 2-1 win at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and received several monkey emojis and racist comments.
Reacting to the ugly incident, the English club said in a statement, “We are disgusted at the racist messages directed towards Destiny Udogie on social media following Saturday’s game against Liverpool.
“We will work with the Premier League and, where possible, take action against any individual we are able to identify.
“We stand with you Destiny.” The statement concluded.
Meanwhile Jamie Redknapp has commended Destiny Udogie and tipped the defender to be a potential star after watching the Tottenham Hotspur left-back come up against Mohamed Salah in their win over Liverpool on Saturday.
“He played against Salah once he made that tactical change and he put him as a central striker, trying to alleviate the pressure from Spurs. He struggled last week, you can’t deny that. It was very difficult against Saka. And then this week I think he just showed that he’s got that calmness and authority. It’s such a quick education to what the Premier League’s all about, the pace, the intensity of it. But he handles it well, he’s getting asked to do a lot of different things,” he told Sky Sports.
“There’s a lot of potential with this young man. He’s had some tough moments, make no mistake, but there’s also been a lot of positives.”
