Abuja Runway: FG awards N825.8bn damages for victims

The Federal Government of Nigeria has announced a damages of eight hundred and twenty five billion and eight hundred million naira damages for Abuja indigenes who will be affected by the construction of 4.2 kilometres runway.

The project, which is to be carried out in Jiwa community, is set to commence soonest.

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, revealed this after a meeting with the Minister of Aviation, Festus Keyamo, officials of both ministries, and representatives of their agencies as well as stakeholders from Jiwa, the affected community in Abuja on Tuesday, August 29, 2023.

According to Wike, the damages is to compensate the residents to vacate the community and seek their cooperation towards the completion of the 4.2 km second Abuja runway project, originally awarded in 2022.

In a similar development, the minister disclosed that construction of a 5km bridge in the Tunga Madaki community is on queue.

He added that the administration will also provide modern health care facility expected to serve as a temporary resettlement site for indigenes of FCT.

He concluded by directing the construction company to resume work immediately, pledging that the approved fund will be released from Wednesday, August 30, 2023.
