Ifelodun Local Government has carried out a large-scale environmental sanitation exercise at Alamisi Market in Ikirun, reaffirming its commitment to cleanliness and public health.

The exercise was coordinated by the council’s Works and Environmental Services (WES) Department in collaboration with members of the Executive Cabinet and the Legislative Arm. It was led by the Special Adviser on Environmental Sanitation, Elder Oloyede Oladele Peter, with security agencies and paramilitary operatives providing supervision to ensure a smooth operation.

The sanitation exercise involved the evacuation of accumulated refuse, clearing of blocked areas, and general environmental cleansing within and around the market to improve hygiene, safety, and orderliness in the busy commercial centre.

Speaking after the exercise, the Executive Chairman of Ifelodun Local Government, Hon. Hassan Kamorudeen Okanlawon, urged residents and traders to make proper use of the alternative dumping site acquired by his administration.

“I want to call on residents, traders, and market users to make proper use of the alternative dumping site secured by this administration. It was acquired to provide a permanent and environmentally friendly solution to indiscriminate refuse disposal,” Okanlawon said.

He issued a stern warning against environmental violations, stressing that offenders would face legal consequences.

“Any individual or group found engaging in indiscriminate dumping of refuse or causing environmental hazards will face strict legal sanctions in line with existing environmental laws,” he warned.

According to the chairman, environmental cleanliness is a shared responsibility, adding that his administration would not tolerate actions that endanger public health or undermine sustainable development.

“Environmental cleanliness is a collective responsibility, and we will not tolerate actions that degrade our environment or threaten public health,” he stated.

Hon. Okanlawon further assured residents of continued collaboration with relevant departments, security agencies, and stakeholders to sustain a clean, healthy, and safe environment across the local government area.
