The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) has demanded justice and full prosecution of a Department of State Services (DSS) officer, Ifeanyi Onyewuenyi, who was recently detained over allegations of abduction, rape and forceful conversion of a 16-year-old Muslim girl, Walida Abdulhadi.

In a press release issued on Saturday, January 10, 2026, MURIC commended the DSS for taking prompt disciplinary action but warned against allowing the case to be swept under the carpet.

The statement, signed by MURIC’s Founder and Executive Director, Professor Ishaq Akintola, described the alleged acts as “atrocious” and a grave abuse of power.

“An officer of the Department of State Services (DSS), Ifeanyi Onyewuenyi, has been detained for abduction, defilement, and forceful conversion of a Muslim girl, Walida Abdulhadi, aged 16,” the statement said.

Reacting to the development, MURIC condemned the alleged actions of the officer in strong terms.

“This is atrocious, egregious and preposterous. It is terrorism in uniform. The suspect does not deserve to wear the uniform of an ordinary voluntary organisation, talk less of the uniform of the highly respected and prestigious DSS. This man should be put away for a long, long time,” Akintola stated.

While acknowledging the DSS’s swift response, MURIC cautioned that justice must be transparent and thorough.

“We commend the DSS for taking prompt action.
Nonetheless, we warn that the case should not be swept under the carpet,” the group said.

MURIC further vowed to pursue the case until justice is visibly served.

“We will not rest until justice is not only done but seen to have been done. Ifeanyi Onyewuenyi is a bad egg, a bad example. We know that the DSS is a highly disciplined security agency, generally made up of decent men and women, but Ifeanyi is the black sheep among them. DSS must make him a scapegoat,” the statement added.

The organisation disclosed that the arrest and detention of the DSS officer followed a petition dated January 4, 2026, written by an Abuja-based law firm, Gamji Lawchain.

MURIC concluded by reiterating its call for justice for the victim and her family, using the hashtag #JusticeForWalida.
