Police Confirm Release of Six Kwara Vigilante Members Arrested in Edo

The Kwara State Police Command has confirmed the receipt, investigation, and subsequent release of six vigilante members earlier arrested by personnel of the Nigerian Army in Edo State.

According to a press statement issued on Tuesday, the vigilante members were arrested along the Auchi–Ikpeshi Road in Akoko-Edo Local Government Area of Edo State while travelling in a vehicle belonging to Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State.

The Command disclosed that the suspects were formally handed over on Wednesday, December 31, 2025, by the Brigade Commander of the 22 Armoured Brigade, Sobi Barracks, Ilorin, Brigadier General N. N. Rume, for investigation and profiling.

Following a comprehensive investigation, the police established that the individuals were genuine members of recognised vigilante groups working in collaboration with security agencies to combat banditry and other criminal activities.
Confirming their release, the Commissioner of Police, Kwara State Command, CP Ojo Adekimi, psc, mnips, said the men were cleared of all allegations after due diligence.

“After a thorough investigation and profiling, it was established that the individuals are legitimate vigilante members operating in collaboration with recognised security agencies. Having been exonerated of any criminal wrongdoing, they were consequently released to their respective leaders,” Adekimi stated.

The police boss reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to cooperation among security agencies and community-based security outfits, stressing the importance of lawful conduct at all times.

“The Kwara State Police Command remains committed to strengthening synergy among all security stakeholders while urging vigilante groups to operate strictly within the confines of the law,” he added.

The Command also assured residents of its continued resolve to safeguard lives and property across the state.
