Troops Bust Criminal Gang, Recover Arms and Ammunition in Delta

Troops of 63 Brigade/Sector 1, Joint Task Force, South-South, Operation DELTA SAFE have dismantled a criminal gang and recovered a cache of arms and ammunition in Oshimili North Local Government Area of Delta State.

The operation, carried out around Ibusa following credible intelligence, led to the arrest of two suspected members of a notorious cult group. During the raid, troops recovered two pump-action rifles from the suspects, while an additional three pump-action rifles were retrieved from purported local vigilantes.

The suspects and recovered weapons have been handed over to the appropriate authorities for further investigation.

In a follow-up operation, troops combed surrounding areas and recovered eight more pump-action rifles at Umuisiagba, bringing the total number of recovered weapons to 13. A total of 13 suspects were arrested, including Nwaokonta Elvis, Obi Victor Woke, Uba Elijah, Nonso Ibiora, Dumbili Ezefili, Ndefu Ifeanyi, Ozemene Richard, Broderick Patrick, Nwaokonta Afamefile, Kelvin Ejiani, Victor Ogochukwu, Ogadi Kelvin Ikechukwu, and Ndibuisi Obiogonna, identified as a native doctor.

Commending the troops for their vigilance, the Commander, 63 Brigade, Brigadier General M.A. Shonibare, urged them to sustain the offensive against criminal networks in the area.

“The Brigade will continue to clamp down on all criminal elements and prioritise the safety of lives and property,” Shonibare assured, reaffirming the Army’s commitment to peace and security in Delta State and its environs.

The Nigerian Army said operations will continue to rid the area of criminal activities and ensure lasting security for residents.
