At the November edition of the National Joint Security Briefing, Director General of the National Orientation Agency (NOA), Lanre Issa-Onilu, announced that Nigeria witnessed notable improvements in its security landscape during October 2025.

Issa-Onilu attributed the progress to enhanced data-driven collaboration and increased citizen intelligence, which he said were vital to sustaining peace and safety across the country.

Reviewing security trends from September, the NOA chief reported a 33% rise in intelligence coordination and a more efficient rapid response system, particularly in Kogi and Zamfara States. He added that operations led to the recovery of high-value arms caches in the North-West and South-East, along with a 12% reduction in violent crime fatalities.

On the anti-corruption front, Issa-Onilu noted that the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) received 44 petitions, concluded 15 investigations, filed five new cases, and secured two convictions within the reporting period. The commission also recovered ₦840 million and $919,000, monitored 35 public health projects, and inaugurated nine anti-corruption units to boost accountability.

He further revealed that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) recovered ₦46 billion and 125 properties in 2025, with over ₦100 billion of recovered funds reinvested in the Students Loan Scheme and the Consumer Credit Scheme. According to him, this demonstrates the government’s commitment to ensuring that recovered assets directly benefit Nigerians.

Issa-Onilu also commended the contributions of other security and regulatory agencies, including the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), and NAFDAC, among others.

Meanwhile, Deputy Force Public Relations Officer, Victor Isuku, disclosed that the Nigeria Police Force has directed all divisional offices to install suggestion boxes outside their stations to make it easier and safer for citizens to share information with law enforcement.

The joint briefing was attended by representatives from key government institutions, including the Nigerian Army, Navy, Correctional Service, EFCC, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, NFIU, NDLEA, ICPC, DSS, and others.
