A coalition of Muslim organisations in Nigeria has issued a powerful call to the United Nations and world leaders, demanding urgent action to address the humanitarian crisis in Palestine and other conflicts across the globe.

In a joint statement titled “A Vote for Global Peace” and presented in Lagos on Friday, the Coalition for Global Peace (CGP), together with the Muslim Public Affairs Centre (MPAC) and the Da’wah Coordination Council of Nigeria (DCCN), urged the UN to move beyond rhetoric and take decisive steps toward restoring justice and peace.

The coalition said the UN summit provides a critical moment to recognise the State of Palestine as a sovereign nation in line with decades-old resolutions. It insisted that Israel’s continued “apartheid policies and war of aggression” demand international sanctions and even expulsion from the UN.

The organisations also highlighted other neglected crises in Sudan, the Democratic Republic of Congo, the Sahel, Kashmir, and Ukraine, accusing the African Union of failing in its responsibilities.

They further called for sweeping reforms of the UN, warning that without restructuring, the body risks becoming irrelevant, much like the defunct League of Nations. According to the statement, the UN must once again serve as a peacekeeping force rather than outsourcing interventions to powerful states.

On Nigeria, the groups condemned what they described as “selective narratives” about insecurity, particularly efforts to frame the violence as targeted against Christians. They stressed that both Muslims and Christians have been victims of indiscriminate killings.

Calling on the Nigerian government to reclaim its leadership in Africa, the coalition appealed for decisive steps to resolve internal insecurity and to project Nigeria’s voice on global issues.

The statement was signed by Tajudeen Alabede of CGP, Disu Kamor of MPAC, and Dr Ahmad Jumba of the DCCN, and endorsed by more than 30 Islamic and civil society organisations.
