Casualties as Suspected Bandits Attack Police Checkpoint in Kogi

There was tension in Kogi State on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, as suspected bandits reportedly attacked a police checkpoint along Okoloke Road in Egbe, Yagba West Local Government Area.

According to viral reports, the assailants stormed the checkpoint in the early hours of the day, opening fire on the officers on duty. Although details remain sketchy, there are fears that at least three policemen may have been killed in the attack.

Eyewitnesses said the incident caused panic among commuters and residents of the area, forcing many to abandon the route for safety. Security reinforcements are said to be moving into the community to restore order and prevent further escalation.

Residents have been strongly advised to stay indoors and avoid the Okoloke–Egbe axis until security operatives bring the situation under control.

The Kogi State Police Command has yet to release an official statement on the development at the time of filing this report.

Background

The attack comes amid rising concerns over the activities of armed groups in parts of Kogi State, particularly in Yagba West, Yagba East, and Mopamuro areas, which share boundaries with Kwara.
