The Kogi State Police Command has confirmed that three of its personnel were killed on Wednesday when suspected hoodlums ambushed a patrol team along the Okoloke–Pategi road, Egbe.

In a statement, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP William Ovye Aya, said the assailants emerged from the bush and opened fire on the officers during a routine patrol.

Following the incident, the Commissioner of Police, CP Miller Dantawaye, ordered the immediate deployment of tactical units, including the Police Mobile Force, Counter-Terrorism Unit, Anti-Kidnapping Squad, Intelligence, and Quick Response teams. The units are to work in synergy with other security agencies to restore calm in the area and track down the perpetrators.

The Commissioner also directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of investigations to commence a thorough probe into the attack.

CP Dantawaye appealed to residents of Egbe and adjoining communities to support the police with credible information that could aid the arrest of the attackers.
