Tinubu Endorses Yobe’s Agricultural Empowerment Drive

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR has applauded the Yobe State Government for its substantial investment in agriculture, describing it as a strategic step toward achieving food sufficiency and long-term food security in the country.
Speaking at the launch of the Yobe State Agricultural Empowerment Programme in Damaturu on Tuesday, President Tinubu—represented by his Senior Special Assistant on Political and Other Matters, Alhaji Ibrahim Kabiru Masari—stated that the programme aligns perfectly with the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
According to Masari, “The Yobe State agricultural empowerment programme is in tune with the Renewed Hope Agenda of the Federal Government.” He further assured that the Federal Government will partner with Yobe State to boost agricultural productivity across the state.
Governor Mai Mala Buni, while unveiling the initiative, disclosed that the state government had procured and is ready to distribute a wide range of modern agricultural equipment and inputs to support farmers and boost local food production.
“In line with our policy to promote agricultural development in the state, I hereby direct that the machines, equipment and other farm implements should be distributed free to deserving farmers. Additionally, I hereby direct a 50% subsidy on the sale of fertilizer to farmers,” Governor Buni announced.
The items procured for the programme include 40 Massey Ferguson tractors, 1,961 power tillers, 1,250 hand push planters, 553 multi-purpose threshers, 3,410 solar water pumps, 830 fertilizer applicators, 4,500 bags of NPK 20:10:10 fertilizer, 195 crop residue crushers, 495 crop residue choppers, 20,000 assorted improved seeds, assorted agrochemicals, 4,000 bunches of cassava stems, certified seed varieties, 50 tricycles, and 30 motorcycles.
This latest empowerment builds upon last year’s efforts, when the Yobe State Government procured and distributed 100 tractors, hand-tilling machines, solar-powered irrigation units, harvesters, threshers, improved seedlings, and fertilizers to farmers across the state.
Governor Buni reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to transforming agriculture into a key driver of economic development and food security in Yobe and beyond.
